Mary Dobbyn is one of New Zealand’s most experienced corporate proofreaders, with a career in professional editing and proofreading spanning more than 25 years. Since commencing her proofreading business in 1998, Mary has built a reputation as a trusted partner for some of New Zealand’s most respected organisations.
Mary specialises in corporate communications – annual reports, sustainability reports, investor documents, marketing materials and publications – where accuracy, consistency and professional presentation are non-negotiable.
Professional credentials
Mary is a Professional Member of the Chartered Institute of Editing and Proofreading (CIEP) – the UK’s leading professional body for editors and proofreaders. CIEP membership reflects a commitment to the highest professional standards, ongoing development, and editorial best practice.
The most recent overseas conference Mary attended was in September 2025, at the CIEP’s annual conference in Milton Keynes, UK – staying current with industry developments, including the evolving role of AI tools and the enduring value of human editorial expertise.
How Mary works
Mary works directly with her clients – bringing personal attention and accumulated expertise to every project. Where the volume or timing of work requires it, experienced contractors are engaged to assist, always under Mary’s supervision and to her exacting standards.
All work is treated with strict confidentiality. Mary serves corporate clients across New Zealand, working remotely with organisations from Auckland to Christchurch and beyond.
Her work for overseas-based clientele has included more than a decade of projects for the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent (IFRC) as well as for Red Cross Canada, together with Caritas Schweiz and Brisbane Festival.
